RESTORATION

Restoring art is precision work. Often a frame, painting, etching or a print has been damaged by external influences. For instance, moisture, heat, acid in the cardboard or nicotine. Or because the work has not been framed professionally in the first place. In the past the techniques and materials that are available to us now weren’t available. Oil paintings can be cleaned, retouched, relining or varnished, these are various phases in the restauration process. Frames and ornaments can be repaired, coloured or gilded and prints and paper can be washed, deacidified, moulded, doubled or the colour can be restored. There are different gradations in restorations and I will be happy to discuss them with you in person at my atelier.
